Craftsmanship

Fabricating smooth finishes by hand is one of my favorite parts of the physical design process.

While tedious to some, I find the process of precise refinement to be both therapeutic and rewarding.

These surface finishes are made to mirror those found in the automotive industry and the skill can be applied to any project that requires a high level of fine craftsmanship.

Surfacing Process

My method included: Drawing orthographic sketches, flattening them onto carving foam, inserting a threaded metal insert, applying an epoxy resin coat, priming and sanding for spot filling. Finished with metallic paint, hand buffing, and high gloss finishing.

Surface quality is a reflection of craftsmanship.

These projects taught me how to transform blocks of foam into a beautiful, flawless objects.

This process has become my standard  for the physical forms  I create.
